Danielson’s game winner showed two highly thought of prospects do something special. MBN was able to intercept the puck on a Penguins rush, found Danielson who drove into the O zone and scored. However, that’s not the story of the game. Husso is the story of this game.
The Penguins, with Crosby, Malkin and Letang, put 44 pucks on net as Detroit found fewer than half that amount. Husso stepped up and(though it was a preseason game) did more than just give his team a chance to win. He tipped the scales and it was something special to behold.
Myself included, there have been several questioning Husso’s role in the coming season after what Lyon put together last year. This is still just a preseason game but the goalie was engaged for the entire time. Pittsburgh dominated in possession and shots. This was just an odd win via a goalie who played a solid 60 minutes.
There are still several games to go. Motte was physical, as was Watson. There aren’t any rookies sticking out but Watson could be a step in physical bottom 6 player putting someone on waivers.
Lombardi’s goal was beautiful. Patient, far side pick on a quick pass from Johansson. Some good moments, but a lot of Detroit watching Pittsburgh carry the puck. A fun win nonetheless. Let me know your thoughts, as always.

At 1:34 Pitt got on the board first as Rakell collected a rebound off of an initial save by Husso. 1-0 Pitt
At 2:48 Lombardi made a nice far side shot on his off wing to tie the game. Johannes with the apple. 1-1

3rd Period Detroit goals:
At 17:11, Danielson took advantage of a Pens turnover at the Wings blue line (per MBN), skated with 1 Penguin defending him, got to the net and scored a go ahead goal. 2-1 DET (Wings being outshot 2 to 1).
