The Winnipeg Jets were in action Sunday in a matinee match-up vs the Pittsburgh Penguins. Prior to the game, there was a beautiful ceremony honouring long-time Jet Bryan Little, who signed a one day contract with the Jets and officially retired from the NHL. Little, along with his wife and daughter took part in the pre-game face-off with Sidney Crosby. It was a great gesture from the Winnipeg Jets organization as a whole for a player that did so much for the city of Winnipeg both on and off the ice.

There were a few line-up changes for the Jets. Eric Comrie got his first start of the season in net. Logan Stanley, coming off the IR, went in for Hadyn Fleury. David Gustafsson drew in for Rasmus Kupari.

The first period went by without a goal. Although the ice was clearly tilted in the Jets favor for the most part of the first period, the returning Alex Nedeljkovic kept the game scoreless.

The second period began with two quick goals by the Penguins. Former Jet, Kevin Hayes scored on the PP. Nearly 4 minutes after that, Lars Eller put the Penguins up 2-0 early in the 2nd period. It was the first time this season the Jets were down by 2 goals. However, after that, the Jets scored 3 unanswered goals in the 2nd period to finish the 2nd period up 3-2. Kyle Connor got the Jets on the board coming off the bench on a delayed penalty to the Penguins and firing a one-timer past Nedeljkovic. Mark Scheifele batted in a rebound to tie the game at 2. Vlad Namestnikov put the Jets up late in the period on a beautiful feed from Nikolaj Ehlers.

Eller tied the game for the Penguins shortly after the 3rd period began. From there it was all Jets. Adam Lowry restored the Jets lead a few minutes later. A few minutes after that, Mason Appleton put the Jets up 5-3. With under 3 minutes left in the game, Nino Niederrieter completed the 3rd period hat-trick for the Jets third line with his empty net goal. The final score was 6-3 in the Jets favor. Comrie stopped 39 of 42 shots for the Jets. Solid outing for him.

The Winnipeg Jets are now 5-0 to start the season. They are the last remaining unbeaten team in the league. They now go on the road for 3 games starting Tuesday night in St. Louis.
