The fewest shots in a Detroit win in history. 10 shots to the Islanders 29. There is no sugar coating that Lyon carried this team to the .500 mark at 3-3-0. Edvinsson saved a goal at one point, but it would feel like a huge disservice to the Islanders to talk about all the things Detroit did right. The biggest thing the team did right was send Husso down and give Lyon another start. You get the feeling Lyon will have options in free agency to get paid.

This is going to sound harsh, but Gustafsson shouldn’t be out on that ice. Whatever he’s struggling with it is brutal to watch. If Detroit is considering a coaching change, they should be shopping for a defenseman as well.

Lyon is doing early in the season what he did later for the team. Keeping them in games that shouldn’t be close. If possession is truly 9/10 of the law, this game belonged to NYI. It goes in the win column for Detroit on Kane’s first goal (and the team’s first shot of the game).

One encouraging move was to see Kasper out on the ice in the final minutes along with Seider and Edvinsson. That’s a lot of trust in a less than ideal scenario. Raymond is skating hard and has erased a few icings this year. The power play looked awful tonight and the PK got through. Edvinsson even had a nice steal from Pageau to clear the puck near the end.

Something has to change. The office has to be looking at this and wondering what moves can be made this early in the season. How do you find a player that fits in the core 23-27 year old age that moves the needle and what do you have to give up during a rebuild? I’m sure the conversation will be more interesting as time goes on.

Let me know your thoughts, as always, and where you think the attention needs to be to get this team outplaying the opposition.

At 8:54 Detroit’s 2nd line skated into the O zone as Tarasenko took it into the left corner, he found Kane at the bottom of the left faceoff dot and #88 got his first of the season, Compher w/2nd assist. (Wings first SOG) 1-0 DET
