First Period:

The Jets came out much better and assertive than in their last game. Within the first 5 minutes of the game, they got goals from Gabe Vilardi and Neal Pionk to give them a 2-0 lead before half of the crowd could even find their seats. Then with under 5 minutes left in the period, Kyle Connor took a pass from Vilardi and made a slick move around Alex Lyon to put the Jets up 3-0 heading into the first intermission.

Second Period:

Although the Jets continued to carry the play, they didn't get to add on to their lead in the second period. Instead, their PK gave up two rare goals to the Red Wings PP in the latter half of the period to bring the score to 3-2 at the end of the period. The Red Wing goal scorers were Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat.

Third Period:

Ten seconds into the final period, the Jets got a greasy goal when a puck last touched by Nino Niederreiter went off a Red Wings defenders skate and into the net to give the Jets a 4-2 lead. Niederrieter was credited with his 5th goal of the season. The Jets put the hammer down after that. Pionk scored on the PP and 3 minutes later Colin MIller's point shot found the back of the net a few seconds after another PP had expired to make it 6-2 for the Jets.

Takeaways from the game:

With his assist on Vilardi's goal, Connor reached 500 career points. Big milestone for him as he continues his hot start to the season. His 9 goals on the season trails only Nico Hischier of the Devils, who has 10.

Great bounce back game from Pionk who had 2 goals on the night. He was -4 against the Leafs.

Although they did get another PP goal, this was one of the better 5 on 5 games that the Jets have played in awhile. It may have been the best 5 on 5 game for the Jets top line thus far.

The Jets improved their record to 9-1 on the season. Their next game is tomorrow night in Columbus.
