Another great goal scored in Phoenix

It was 2 years and 1 day that separated goals that make your jaw drop.

Alex Ovechkin pulled off one of the finest individual performances as far as scoring a goal is concerned. It was at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale 2 years ago. He danced Paul Mara, fell on his back, going down. He did a rolling, spinning, snow angel and swept the puck facing the other way past Mara, Steve Gainey and goalie Brian Boucher. It was as "Holy Jumpin" as you will find. Even Wayne Gretzky had to take another look on the jumbo tron, and we all know how many times in his career he's done thing's like that.

In comparing OV's goal to the one that Rick Nash scored on Thursday night, you have to only look at the time of the goal and the impact on the bottom line. I am afraid OV's goal doesn't compare, as the Capitals were beating the Coyotes 5-1 at the time. Game was over.

Rick Nash caught us all off guard, not that OV didn't.

Except that the Coyotes had pulled their goalie, got Martin Hanzel off the bench and he scored to tie the game at 3-3 with around 1:40 left in the game. The place was jumpin, the Yotes looked as if they at least had a point and were heading to OT.

Nash then scored one for the ages. Getting a pass from Mike Peca after Derek Morris didn't get it in deep, Nash took off. Morris got back, and so was Keith Ballard. It was a 1 on 2 against the tandem that goes head to head with the other teams best line every night. The clock is ticking down. He makes one move, toes drags it back towards his feet as Morris tries to hit him. He rolls off that one and it looks like he is going to the inside. He drags it back to his back hand and cuts in towards Mikael Tellqvist. Telly pokechecks him but the puck hits Nash on the shin and right back to his stickblade and he calmly taps it into the empty net. Game Over. Thanks for coming.

The key now is to bounce back. These can be devastating plays that have an impact on the next few games. It happened a few years ago when the Oilers scored off a face off with 2.8 seconds remaining and then won in OT.

Wayne Gretzky today said that great goals happen when you have great players. He said that his team didn't play well enough for the 1st 2 periods and he was right. They dominated the 3rd but against a hard working team like the Jackets, you can't cheat.

He will have Steven Reinprecht back from injury but not Radim Vrbata. Ilya Bryzgalov will get back in the net.

The Chicago Blackhawks won 2-1 in Colorado on the shoot out, as Robert Lang scored the gwg.
