Jacob Trouba did finally accept a trade, but not to Motown. The “revised” edition of why he wouldn’t come to Detroit doesn’t really hold water. The Rochester native said he wanted to be in New York as his wife finished her schooling when a trade was nixed. Then I was told she only had half a year to go, so it may not be DOA. Now, the defenseman has been moved about as far from broadway as he could get. After shoveling and salting and getting trash cans out of the snow, it’s hard to blame him.
A lot seems to be happening in other markets. Trouba didn’t hold out to go to a contender, Anaheim isn’t lighting it up in their division. Players just may not want to be part of what is (or isn’t) happening in Detroit right now. Not a great look.
3 coaching changes, a significant salary move, a missed opportunity to get a dman out of Nashville before he went on waivers. Well, Brendan Lemieux will be a free agent soon….
Is this what it seems to be? Are players who have the ability to opt out going to avoid a deal that moves them to the Pizza Palace? There aren’t many pieces that many of you would like to see move on that would have eager takers. The decision to attach a draft pick to Walman for, well, nothing, looks worse and worse. Perron is having trouble staying healthy so it’s less painful, but Kane just doesn’t have the jump he had last year.
It’s not impossible that a deal gets done, it just seems like there is nothing happening as the team continues to slide. Let me know your thoughts. New York is doing something to open space and has two more players being mentioned as possible trades. Detroit isn’t a piece (or two, or three) away from post season contention at this moment. Is this just a trade show where Wings fans don’t get to participate in the shifts?
