4 goals scored in 7 minutes and 53 seconds was the most by Detroit in about 45 years. The first period was unreal. The fourth goal came on the 5th shot. After the second period ended at 6-1, it felt like the third could be a rough ride. Seattle dominated in shots for the final 20 and grabbed a 2nd tally. Things were getting testy and scrums were starting to form after the whistle.

Danny Dekeyser said it well in one of the final in game segments at the desk. “You don’t want to end this game at 6-4 after such a strong start”. Full marks to Seattle who wanted to turn down the celebration and put that seed of doubt into the mix. When the score is so lopsided it’s easy for one (or both) team to lose their edge. McLellan will have to balance a message of what went very right in the first 40 with what the team needs to avoid, especially with some Vitamin D on the way.

It’s honestly good to see Kasper benefit from the work he puts in on the boards and Johansson seems to be growing into his role more and more. Debrincat and Kane have new life and Larkin got a nice boost as well. Compher and Gustafsson are making strides as well. There is a lot of good that has come out of the post Christmas return. Now, it will face some tough sledding.

There haven’t been any strong tips on possible deals as the team is focused internally on just being on the same page. The new voice in the room has done a good job to get several more voices to step up and communicate during the game. Raymond continues to impress and seems like a special player as he continues to develop.

Let me know your thoughts and how this recent run has affected your perception of the team and what they need to do to get the most they can out of the roster they have. There are still drop offs, they are quite a bit less right now but those overload moments that leads to goals against are still there in those moments. Just keep going shift after shift and try to win it 30 seconds at a time.

1st Period goals:

At 3:22, Raymond skated the puck behind the net and found Larkin in the bumper spot. The Captain ripped a shot for his 18th of the year and the 1st of the game. 1-0 DET (changed to Kasper)

11 seconds later after winning a faceoff in the O zone Compher got to the net front and tipped a shot from Tarasenko. 2-0 DET

At 6:16 Debrincat got his team leading 19th as he had a wide open lane on his off wing during the power play. 3-0 DET

At 7:53 Kane got in on the action as the winger was wide open at the side of the net to collect a feed from Gustafsson for a tap in. 4-0 DET on 5 shots and their fastest 4 goals in a single game since 1980.

Shots: 12-11 SEA
Score: 4-0 DET

2nd Period goals:

At 4:17 Gustafsson gets a goal on the power play as the dman has seen his point production increase under the new regime. 5-0 DET

At 15:21 Larkin scores again on the power play. Kane found the captain right in front of the net after a broken attempt by Seattle to clear the puck reset the ice. 6-0 DET

Kraken get 1 back with 2:00 left in the 2nd. 6-1 DET

Shots: 19-18 DET
Score: 6-1 DET

3rd Period goals:

At 6:54 Seattle got another. 6-2 DET

Shots: 33-23 SEA
Score: 6-2 DET
