The Columbus Blue Jackets hang on and defeat the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night by the final score of 3-2 in overtime.
Period I
The point streak remains intact for the potential Norris and Hart candidate, defenseman Zach Werenski, as the Michigan native opened the scoring for the home team with his 16th of the season and 19th straight game with a point at home.
AHL All Star Luca Del Bel Belluz continues his hot stretch with the big club as the rookie has earned his fifth assist of the season. Michigan Wolverine Kent Johnson had the secondary helper.
Phillip Danault tied the game to commence the visitor goal scoring. The former Hab had his fourth of the season from Kevin Fiala.
Period II
Trevor Moore had the first penalty of the game for slashing against Adam Fantilli. Los Angeles had seven shots; Columbus had eight.
Period III
Dante Fabbro had his fourth as a Blue Jacket from Damon Severson and James van Riemsdyk.
JvR has 12 points in 12 games through the month of January 2025, and is currently on a three game point streak including two goals and two assists (4 points).
Severson had the only Columbus minor penalty for interference on Quinton Byfield.
Quinton Byfield tied the game at two a piece with 65 seconds remaining in regulation. Byfield earned his 10th of the season from Alex Laferriere, the Kings’ breakout player, and Fiala for his second point of the night.
Overtime
A Zach Werenski penalty shot was denied after the reward was given from a Trevor Moore slash.
Kirill Marchenko recorded his third straight 20-goal season with the overtime winner from Ivan Provorov and Justin Danforth.
Players to Watch
Los Angeles — Brandt Clarke had the second least amount of ice time for defensemen with 13:55TOI. Not a good night for him on my fantasy team. He did have 3 shots and a block shot.
Columbus — Adam Fantilli, the man of many names, was one of three Columbus skaters with over 25 and a half minutes of ice time, joining Marchenko and Werenski. Unlike the other two, Fantilli was held off the scoresheet.
Goaltenders
Darcy Kuemper had 3 goals on 24 shots against for a 0.875 save percentage.
Elvis Merzlikins had 31 saves on 33 shots against for a 0.939 save percentage.
CBJ Three Stars of the Game

3. Elvis Merzlikins — W, 93.9SV%, 31SV
