STart here first…
I have a lunch meeting with two really important sources from the NHL, so I’ll be writing more after 1 o’clock.
Earlier today, one source told me that the next five days are going to be, or potentially could be, the busiest of the trade season. Teams i’m very interested in getting their rentals, or new players with the team and adjusted over the four nations break. Gms are calling it “The pre-trade deadline deadline.”
However, one of the things which is currently working against trades is how close the standings have gotten in the Eastern Conference for the playoffs. Especially for teams like the Islanders and Red Wings who were thought to be definite sellers.
Bo Horvat was discussed a lot until recently…. Toronto had great interest in him. But Lou Lamoniello now has a strong belief that this could work out and rarely sells if hope is present. And the Islanders are playing better than almost anyone…..
The two most likely sellers right now are Pittsburgh and Philly….both of whom have already sold off some key pieces. And it’s highly doubtful that both are done, wheeling and dealing.
I’ll be back after lunch to give you my update.
