Chris on the Devils… Where Can The Devils Go From Here |

After a brutal loss to Colorado last night in which the Devils could have overtaken Carolina for second in the Metro, I’m left asking myself, where can the Devils go from here…
Jake “L”in’, Where Can He Go?
Anywhere but the Devils net, please.
I’m well aware of the few positive stats that the Allen apologists post online, but Jake Allen is done. Let’s face it, this guy produces more L’s than the SCRABBLE factory. In his last 14 starts he has 11 losses. Spectacular saves have been made during this stretch, timely saves however, have not. To end the game last night, he let in three goals on his last six shots(fine, not all his fault, but still). He has zero rebound control (goals 2 and 4 by Colorado are the latest). There were also a bunch of pucks lately that he “saved” but trickled through his wickets, only to be bailed out by a Devils defender. The Snake is not feeling or tracking the puck with any certainty.
When I saw this goaltending matchup Wednesday afternoon, Devils fan friends and I almost simultaneously texted one another questioning if we should even watch. Blackwood(more on this guy later) vs Allen, are we really going to stay up late for this!?

The Allen effect has trickled into the veins of this team. When he’s in net, they look stiff, off, like they’re pressing. It’s almost as if they know they can’t make a mistake. Their lack of confidence in Allen limits their ability to play loose and relaxed, further compounding the problem that is
Jake “L”in’.
When he stormed off the ice with 1:42 to go last night, I was really hoping that his Uber was outside and the destination was Waiver Wire…
Ondrej Palat, Where Can He Go?
The Bottom Six.
Let’s face it, there is zero depth up front for this New Jersey Devils team. Outside of Jack, Bratt and Nico there is nothing. Way too many droughts throughout the year from Timo Meier, Dawson Mercer and others.
Flanking Bratt and Hughes with Palat, just isn’t working. The lack of speed and lack of hands on Palat just don’t fit with the tempo of their game. Last night was another example in which Palat struggled to handle pucks and extend plays.
Mackenzie Blackwood, Where Can He Go?
Apparently the Hockey Hall Of Fame if he plays the Devils for 82 games plus. To say he’s the Devils’ Kryptonite in goalie form would not be an overstatement.
After period one last night I was left with no choice, but to take matters into my own hands. With a Blackwood bobble head staring at me from a shelf beneath my TV, and the Devils seemingly never being able to score against this God, I mean Guy, I turned to black magic. Something I’ve only ever done in the past to put the funk on the New York Rangers. I grabbed the bobble head, ripped the stick from his hands, and blindfolded him with electrical tape. Then I stuck him in the freezer where he remains until further notice.

Tom Fitzgerald, Where Can He Go?
To the phones I hope. The clock is ticking on what started out to be a very promising Devils season. For most of the first third of the season, the Devils were top 5 in odds to win the Stanley Cup. With the current roster showing their true colors, they’ll be an easy out in the first or second round at best unless TF makes some big moves.
Devils Fans, Where Can We Go?
Anywhere you want, but where you should go is nowhere! The core of this team is built for the long haul. We have the players, picks, prospects and personnel needed for what is a ten year Stanley Cup window in which we are only in year one of.
