This is in the goal description below, but if you only ever saw Johansson’s game winning goal in today’s 3-0 shutout, you’d think he’d be in double digits. The blue liner’s 2nd of the year was an absolute beauty after a razor thin keep in by Berggren and Detroit put together 60 minutes in a much needed win.
Shots on goal, limiting shots against, better management and the top line with Soderblom clicked for a beauty from Raymond. Kasper’s moving tip in was the icing on the cake and still more evidence that the move between Kane and Debrincat turned out to be the right one. That line seems to be clicking even when the rest of the team isn’t. But today, you had first line, second line, blue line. Not bad.
The win keeps Detroit in the hunt of 4 teams all looking to grab the final wild card as Ottawa seems to have made some space for themselves. It was a good afternoon of hockey for Red Wings fans and a much needed boost all around. Let me know your thoughts on the game, and even your favorite goal of the day. Obviously I’m going with Johansson, but there were 3 beauties to be picked from.
1st Period goals:
No first period goals
Shots: 8-5 DET
Score: 0-0
2nd Period goals:
At 7:58 Albert Johansson opened up the scoring with his 2nd tally of the season. If this was the only clip you saw of Johansson you’d think he was a pretty regular contributor in the goal department. After an insanely tight keep in by Berggren right at the line, the puck went to the Dman who skated in faked a snap shot far side, the goalie came out and Johansson tucked it in behind him. 1-0 DET
At 4:49 Raymond got his 23rd of the season and put Detroit up by 2. After a faceoff win, the puck went back to the blue line and then to Razor showed off his skating as he drove to the center of the ice and snapped a goal far side. Soderblom looking better on that line. 2-0 DET
At 11:14 Kasper continues to add to his value with his 13th of the year on a tip in that put Detroit up 3-0. Kane took a pass from Debrincat behind the net, sent the puck up to Gustafsson at the line whose shot was tipped by the young centerman.
