We gather again, loyal Panthers fans, on another First Round Eve.
Making the postseason is always exciting, but it’s even better when the Cats are playing the in-state rival Lightning for another chapter in storied Battle of Florida book.
Florida fans have a lot to be thankful (and excited) for, as they get a healthy roster back in time for Round 1 – most notably spark plug Mattew Tkachuk is ready to go. Not only that, but Ekblad’s suspension will be done by Game 2 (?)…
When the Panthers knocked TBL out of the playoffs last year with 4-1 series win, it seemed that the changing of the guard had taken place in Florida hockey.
Heading into Round 1 tomorrow should be interesting…
The Lightning finished 47-27-8 this season to take second in the Atlantic Division. The Panthers finished 47-31-4, good for third in the Atlantic.
Last season had a feel about it when these two teams met up in the postseason. I felt the Cats had Tampa’s number, and they did.
This year?
I think it’s going to be a really gritty, tough-fought series. Lots of bad blood and lots of entertainment.

Who has the edge? I’d like to think the Panthers do, especially given they are getting everyone back. That will provide a nice boost to the lineup.
I just can’t discount the Lightning. They’ve been too good for too long and know what to do this time of year.
But so do our guys.
Tomorrow can’t come fast enough…
