Sharks and Blues in the Tank

The Sharks have the Blues tonight, the St. Louis Blues that is. The team should not take them lightly though. I hate to say this but this is one of those games they should be able to win, but may end up on the losing end of because some may start the All-Star break early. The crowd should be alive tonight after San Jose broke the four game skid with a win over Chicago here on Tuesday. I was in attendance and I must say it was pretty loud in there, so everyone going tonight, get fired up and send Joe and Nabby off to Atlanta with a roar tonight.

The Blues come to town on a six game skid. Roberto Luongo played a great 3rd period last night as Vancouver knocked off the Blues 3-2 in a shoot out. Goaltender Manny Legace has played well this season and his play has found him a spot on the All-star roster. This is a team that played last night and went the full 60 plus OT and a shootout, so San Jose should try to pounce on them early.

The Sharks 4 game homestand has been less than stellar. With loses to Detroit and Dallas they find themselves 3rd in the Pacific Division. Tuesday nights performance was much more inspiring than the previous two outings and the special teams bagged the win for the Sharks. While St Louis is dead last in the league in PP %, their PK is very good. The Sharks need to continue to show variety on the PP and allow the defense to drive some shots at Legace. A good solid 60 minutes from the boys in teal should put them on the winning side tonight, but if they are already thinking about the break, things could go South for them.

Keys to the Game....

1.) Shots from the point. The defense has done a good job of contributing offensively. Adding more of this will make the team more multi-dimensional and will begin to open things up for the guys down low.

2.) Bernier needs to cause havoc for Legace in front of the net. He is big and strong and with Clowe out he needs to have more of a presence in front. Just make one defender have to watch you in the zone constantly and you have already done your job.

3.) Move around on the PP. It is beginning to come around because they are giving teams some different angles to watch. If you are not the puck carrier your feet should be moving, if not take a seat and think about why you are not skating. Shoes are for standing around, so if you have skates on and you are on the ice, remember to skate. !

Everyone enjoy the game and have a good day! GO SHARKS!
