Trade the Sisters!
Fire Nonis and Vigneault!
Bench Naslund!
Bring up the Moose … at least they will try!
I thought I was depressed already, but after listening to the radio and reading the forums, I’m actually feeling pretty good.
I have maintained for a while now that this team is not good enough so their current woes aren’t hitting me as hard as others I guess. Of course I want them to win and their seemingly lack of effort and desire when they have their destiny in their own hands is more than just a little appalling, but it is what it is. (Sorry!)
If there’s any good news in all of this it is that Nonis & Co can not be fooled that they are only one or two players away from making a run at it. If the Canucks had won their last two games they would be sitting in first place in the NW and be occupying the 3rd seed in the Conference and everything would be rosy.
No matter what happens from here on out, and first place is still not out of the question the way everyone else is playing and with nothing but head-to-head matchups in the last 9 games ahead, it is obvious to all that the current makeup of this roster will never reach the ultimate goal. Even if this team manages to recover and finish strong, maybe even win a round or two, this team will look vastly different a year from now … I think that is now a given.
After last night’s loss to the Coyotes, where they were outshot, outhit, outchanced and outeverythinged, the team did not make any of the players available to the media after the game. I haven’t heard any reports on this so I don’t know what was said, but it’s safe to say that the proverbial hit the fan in the locker room.
This team has faced much adversity over this season and in many instances they have responded showing character and desire and gotten the job done when their backs were against the wall. That says a lot, but it also says a lot when you don’t get it done unless you absolutely have to. Where’s the pride? Where’s the playing for the guy sitting next to you?
Not everyone is low on the effort meter, but unfortunately it’s the same suspects almost every game out and combined, they add up to only about 1/3rd of the players dressing for the game. When you can count on only 30% giving it their all, and on average those guys are not considered your top-enders, well, you get what we’ve been seeing of late.
Will it change? We’ll get our next chance to see who wants to be wearing this Jersey next year tomorrow night in Dallas at 4pm. I, for one, and maybe the only one, am looking forward to it.
The Grades …

C+ Mitchell, Bieksa, Morrison, Naslund, Burrows, Isbister, Pettinger, Shannon
C Salo, Edler, Weaver, Bourdon, Daniel, Pyatt, Kesler, Ritchie
C- Henrik
Rumour has it that the NHL is revisiting the Pronger “stomp” on Kesler now that better video has come out. There’s no doubt that there was intent and he should get some sort of suspension after Kesler tied up his feet by wrapping his legs around him while he lay down on the ice, but it doesn’t come anywhere close to the Simon on Ruutu incident, imo.
I guess you have to give the league credit for looking at something they have already ruled on (if in fact they actually are), but it is an absolute joke that they made a decision so quickly in the first place, especially since the Ducks weren’t playing yesterday.
Will they now suspend him? My gut says they won’t and that this revisiting it is just to appease the masses … we shall see.
