Hurting At The Wrong Time

If you can’t see a coach’s hands these days it’s because he has his fingers crossed and his hands behind his back. He is hoping and praying that his player who just blocked a shot, didn’t break a bone.

With the playoffs starting next week, watch the injury reports very closely. As evenly matched as most teams are, it will only take a top 6 forward or a top 4 defenseman going down to kill a team in the first round.

After Montreal’s brilliant 2nd half, their playoff hopes were nearly smashed last week. Now it looks as if top 4 d-man Mike Komasarik’s lower body will mend in time for the first round. He is Montreal’s physical presence on the blueline. Saku Koivu, Mark Streit and Francis Bouillon are all hobbled after blocking shots with their feet. Koivu’s foot is broken and he is iffy for the first round.

This season…it’s all about timing.

Random Thoughts

• Classy finish. During the Sabres last home game of the season, they took camera shots of all the hard-working people behind the TV scenes. Camera men, stage managers, tape operators. With many years under my belt in the industry, I can assure you they are all over-worked and under-paid. Nice tribute. Well done Buffalo!
• It’s a shame the Nashville Predators don’t get more national coverage. People would know who Dan Ellis is. Unbelievable shutout streak that ended in OT in Detroit after a brilliant start. Just another in the long list of players to make it big out of University of Nebraska-Omaha. Yah right?
• I’ve never felt the Sharks had the internal organs required to win the Cup. Until now. This could be their year.
• 2 words for Roberto Luongo: Planned Pregnancy
