Old Songs, Playoffs, and McLaren...

"I Will Survive" is probably one of the songs in this world I just can't stand. My apologies to Gloria Gaynor, but the fact that my mom played that song on a rotating basis from my toddler years all the way up until I finally earned that glorious driver's license, well...the song just makes me sick.

You know what, though? I'm trying to be little miss sunshine (I have a t-shirt to prove it), and I'm making that my official Sharks playoff song. Yes, I do have a play list on my iPod that I listen to before I head to Sharks games. If you're interested in knowing what's on it, I've sprinkled in some Van Halen and Foo Fighters. It's pretty rockin'.

But seriously, there's a reason why it's a seven-game series, and to be honest, I'm really sick of hearing that the Sharks don't have a shot at winning the cup, much less advancing to the second round. I even had people approaching me today actually believing that there's no chance in hell that the Sharks would advance after last night's...embarrassment. I'm not going to repeat what Mark and Ryan have said in their respective blogs, because quite frankly I'm sick of saying the same thing over and over again, but the Sharks really need to figure out a way to survive in this series. Do whatever it takes. Be physical. Move your feet. DON'T TAKE ANY STUPID PENALTIES. Maybe listen to some Gloria Gaynor in the locker room?

Anyone listen to KNBR today? I got a text message from Papa Marchell today saying someone called in saying the Sharks should pull Nabokov and play Boucher because he allows only one goal per game. That's an interesting, if not amusing, idea to say the least.

Sharksbuzz was a great time last night. After it was over, I listened to it, and I realized that I sound like a twelve-year-old girl on a date with one of the Jonas Brothers. But seriously, I really encourage all Sharks fans to call in, if not listen, to Sharksbuzz. I believe the next one is tomorrow after the Sharks game.

Oh, Kyle. Kyle McLaren. How I used to admire thee. You used to make those hip checks. Those bone-crushing, I-want-to-get-out-of-my-seat-and-cheer hits. Now I watch you, and I curse you as much as my Calculus homework. You create bad turnovers. You are slow. You aren't as physical as you used to be. Is it your knee that still bothers you? When you have found your former self, come talk to me. But please come back. Sharks fans miss you. I miss you.

I bought two playoff tickets for Thursday (one for myself and one as a present to Papa Marchell), and I'm hoping that the Sharks don't blow it that night. I'm sorry, but my $8.50/hr. job already has enough trouble paying my cell phone/gas bill. It always sucks when they lose at home, but if anyone else is going, feel free to run into me to say hello. But maybe not too hard. I'm small.

Avs-Wild game tonight. Should be a great game to watch. My favorite part is watching Scotty Hannan get scored on. Sorry, but in my opinion the guy's a little overrated. Kudos to Doug Wilson for recognizing that. Plus, the guy has a really bad mullet. It just kind of bugged me when he played for San Jose. Kind of like those geckos you see during the intermission at Sharks games.

I found an interesting quote from Nabby today. It says, "It takes men to play this sport, not a bunch of boys, and we looked like a bunch of boys out there and they looked like a bunch of men. Now we have to turn it around and respond."

I really felt sorry for Nabokov yesterday, as he couldn't have really stopped any of the goals scored on him last night (especially that last one). In my eyes, Nabby is one of those guys who'll give 110% every game, and it really isn’t fair to him the way the team, especially the defense, played last night. You can disagree with me or not, but Nabby is the backbone of the team. Period. And kudos to Nabby for calling the guys out.
