SO impressed with Marty Turco last night.
He is literally carrying the team's ghost and his ghost to the second floor balcony and pushing them over! The Amazing Red Wings through it all at Marty last night, and Turco, HAVING NEVER WON AT THE JOE AS A PRO, pushed back hard. Game six tomorrow night is MUST SEE TV.
Meanwhile Today, The Penguins will get another shot to off the BIG BAD FLYERS, but with Timonen and Coburnd back, there is sure to be HUGE emotional lift on the Philly side. Kimmo is good for at least a goal either way in each game. Be it the Power Play or Penalty Kill or regular strength, Kimmo is all things to this team.
If you are a Pens fan looking for a silver lining, the return of Kimmo should focus the Pens a bit more then they were in either game in Philly. I really felt that both Crosby and Malkin were allowing themselves to be soft on the puck in an attempt to draw some penalties.
Put it this way. There are trips where guys go down too easily, and there are penalties drawn from driving to the net, holds and hooks.. These great players are so great that the argument could be made that on "any given break" someone needs to do "something to them" to attempt to slow them down. If you are driving to the net and never leave your feet you may get hooked and held and it MAY not get called, but you also will create a serious scoring chance. If you fall down from a trip either the penalty gets called or you just lose the puck.
With Timonen and Coburn out of the line-up, the temptation to go to the man advantage was huge on the Pens part. Game three was pretty much won when Malkin was tripped by Hatcher early. As a team you do what you need to do to win. So I am not calling out the Pens AT ALL.
I am just thinking back to games 1 and 2 where Malkin and Crosby were driving more. I wonder if knowing that Timonen and Coburn are back killing Penalties, if the Pens will be less focused on getting to the power play and the result could either be more more chances or more power plays as a result of players needing to hold and hook.
I will continue to update today and will be in and out of Chat.
