No dice tonight and the Jackets lose 4-3. Brassard, Voracek and Chimera did very well and gave the Hawks all kind of problems. York was no where to be found and thats not good for his future with the big club.
More tomorrow.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3rd Period underway and Dan LaCosta has replace Norrena in the net.
LaCosta is standing on his head early and keeping the Jackets in it.
The CBJ are going on the power play after Duncan Keith got whistled.
Chimera and Barker are going at it and Chimmer kicked Barker's can. Chimmer is wearing the captain's C tonight and showed that he is willing to drop the gloves.
11:47 left and it is still tied up.
GOOOAAAALLLLL!!! Picard scores at 8:36 of the 3rd and the Jackets take their first lead. Picard from Tollefsen and Kelly.
The Hawks are going on the power play. Sharp makes us pay after a good pass from Kane. We are tied up again at 3 - 3.
Troy Brouwer scores after rebound from Fraser. Hawks take the lead at 4-3
Jackets are going on the power play. They are 0 for 3 so far. Nothing again on the power play and the Jackets are 0 for 4 on the night. Jackets can't make this a problem again this year or they will have to chance to make the playoffs.
2:42 left and the Hawks are up 4-3.
Dorsett gets 2 minutes penalty with 2 minutes to play.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2nd period underway and the Jackets will be on the power play for the first 1:52 of the game on the Boulerice major penalty.
Jackets couldn't score on the powerplay
Chimmer just got pasted in the corner knocking off his helmet. Well, Chimera went down and smoked a player and got a penalty for 2 minutes for boarding. The Hawks make them pay and lead 1-0. Pascal Pelletier got a homerun pass from Duncan Keith and doesn't miss.
Hawks come right back and Troy Brouwer stuffs in another to go up 2-0 in only 22 seconds.
Voracek to Chimera for a tick tac toe goal. Beauty of a pass by Voracek to come right back and get the CBJ right back in it and it is now 2-1. They are coming fast and furious.
57 second span to score all 3 goals.
13:01 left
Clay Wilson fires from 55 feet and Novotny ticked it in. We are tied up at 2-2. Good work down low and a good job of Wilson whistling this one towards the net. Novotny from Wilson
Norrena is down and getting looked at but he stays in the game.
5:45 left in the 2nd and we are still tied up.
Sharp off for hooking for 2 minutes. The Jackets are on the power play.
Brassard is quarterbacking the power play and the Jackets are all over the Hawks. Brassard, Voracek, Russell and Chimera are giving them fits. Couldn't tickle the twine and are back to 5 on 5.
Norrena just stuffed Sharp on a good chance.
End of a very exciting 2nd period and we are all tied up at 2.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's underway in the sold out barn in Chicago. The boys must come with it right from the start and Norrena better be very good tonight to give the Jackets a chance for a win. Winning in the preseason is very important for the Jackets to start a winning attitude.
Brassard has been deemed one of the best players in camp so far. Now let's see if it translates to a game situation. He is paired up with Chimera and Voracek to start. A ton of speed on that line so they should get their chances!
2:32 in and Chicago is out shooting the Jackets 4 - 0. Better get that corrected or this will get ugly
16:24 left to go and we have minor penalty called to both teams. A little 4 on 4 and Norrena has already had to be good.
Chimmer just grabbed a 2 minute minor for roughing after Campbell set a pick and Chimera got a little carried away. No damage done though and the Jackets did a nice job killing the penalty.
Dorsett and Frasier have put up the dukes and it looks as if Dorsett got the best of him. Now this should get the game going. Nothing like a hockey fight to get everyone into the game.
Now Sestito and Boulerice are going after right after the break. These 2 are no stranger fighting majors. Already no love lost between the Jackets and Hawks.
3:56 left in the 1st period and still no score. Very aggressive play and you can tell players know that they are playing for spots. Chicago is playing Kane a ton early.
Picard and Tollefsen have gone after Barker in the Chicago bench at 3:07 left. Picard pushed Fraser into the bench and kept coming. Sestito and Fraser are going at it verbally. Boulerice is off for 5 minutes.
Jackets are on the power play!
End of the 1st period and no score. Each team seems more in favor of beating the crap out of each other versus trying to score.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, here we go boys (and girls). Blue Jacket hockey finally! It's been a long off season and this is only a pre-season game but it is live hockey. Tonight a lot of youngsters are in the lineup and a lot of the studs from the team won't be in Chicago. Chicago on the other hand have some of their big guns on the ice tonight. Campbell, Kane and Sharp are just a few that will be on hand for the Hawks. We will see how the youngsters and some vets that are fighting for roster spots perform. For these players they need to make an impression right from the start of the preseason as there is probably only 2 forward spots and 1 or 2 defensive spots open.
More to come after they drop the puck!

Steve Mason, top goaltending prospect for the Blue Jackets, had a set back in his recovery from his knee injury he suffered at the end of last year with his Kitchener junior team.
I just received a text from Scott Howson who stated that "surgery was performed today and it was successful." It was an arthroscopic knee surgery procedure.
“Steve’s knee has not responded to his earlier procedure as well as we had hoped, so this was the next step towards his making a full recovery and getting back on the ice as soon as possible,” said Howson.
Howson also stated that he will be out 4 to 6 weeks.
I will keep you up to date.
Fire the Cannon!
