The winless streak is done. Over, kaput, finis!! Woooooooooohooooooooooo!
It wasn't pretty but they did it and did it the hard way with a shorthanded goal by Burrows with a 1:30 left in the game.
I'm not going to plan a parade route yet but there were some signs of life from the team and most importantly Mats Sundin. His set up to Kesler and go ahead goal at 3-2 were the kind of plays Canucks fans have been hoping to see since the December signing.
This club is a long way off from being where they need to be but the foundation of ineptitude in all aspects of the game seems to have been cracked. There are still some glaring weaknesses but if they can work toward something positive rather than avoid something negative there is reason for hope.
We saw an almost complete game from Vancouver but where they messed up is still a concern. It seems to me that there is not quite enough conversation when on the PK. Both goals by Carolina were preventable IMO if the unit on the ice communicated about coverage faster and better. The Canucks also need to battle a bit better for the pucks, I found the 'canes did a good job of winning battles and moving the puck in the offensive zone.
Finally, Vancouver needs to move it's feet more-something vastly improved in this game- and just make the smart play and not over complicate things. It's happening far to often still, instead of a quick shot on net the puck gets handled and opportunity lost. Too many times players are not rushing together and making room for the guy with the puck as well. Get a body in front on the net and get the puck there quick.
I have a few more things I'd like improved but we'll bask in a bit of positive sunshine before I nit pick anymore. I'm happy but I can still see the forest from the trees, this team has lots to work on and Lou has got to get better too.
31 games left
4 of possible 8 points earned since my countdown began.
I said they needed at least 40.
18 wins still needed.
