Update:

Oiler forward Liam Reddox, a Whitby native, was on his feet and moving about the locker room after the game. Good news.

2-1 Sabres with 6 and change left in the third period. Drew Stafford and the Full Monty score for the home team. Former Mississauga Ice Dog, Patrick O'Sullivan, beats Miller with a bullet from the right point while his team was on a 5 on 3 man advantage.

Clarke MacArthur of the Sabres just earned himself a five and a game for a hit from behind on Liam Reddox. The Edmonton forward immediately crumpled to the ice along the boards at the Edmonton bench. Both players were in pursuit of a 50/50 puck along the wall in the Oiler's end of the rink. MacArthur applied body pressure from behind which resulted in a scary crash to the halfwall by the young Oiler. Reddox required the assistance of Buffalo team doctors and Stafford's uncle Barrie to get onto the bench and down the gang plank to the Oilers room.

MacArthur was given a major penalty and a game misconduct, which puts the Oilers on the PP for the next five minutes. They can score as many goals as they wish in the five minutes time frame. That is, if they can finally solve Ryan Miller who has been rock solid in the the pipes.

Mac should know better than to apply pressure with the opponent's numbers staring him in the face. The NHL GMs met in Tronna on Tuesday and Wednesday and the topic of head shots and dirty plays was discussed at length. One presumes that Edmonton GM, Steve Tambellini, will be calling Colin Campbell's office to review MacArthur's boarding major.

Sabres successfully kill the penalty.

1:09 remains in regulation, Pat Quinn pulls Khabibulin.

Hecht reads the pass and turns it into an open netter.

3-1 Buffalo Finals.

Losers of three of their last four games, lindy Ruff is looking to shake up his pivots in order to get better and more consistent offensive production tonight.

Tim Connolly will play between Vanek and Stafford. Roy will skate with MacArthur and Pommer.

With Capatin Chris concussed in NYC, Connolly now becomes a serious candidate to play the pivot for Team USA at Vancouver in February. Keep a close eye on #19.

Jason Spezza spoiled game two of the Oilers’ five game roadie with his Shootout goal in Ottawa on Tuesday night.

The Oil have been wracked by the flu bug and other crud in recent weeks. Their staring lineup has been changing night to night. For example, Latislav Smid made his return in Ottawa Tuesday night. He had been sick with swine flu for the past few weeks. “Pat Quinn Medicine Man” is a more apt job title these days than “Head Coach”

Expect Shawn Horcoff and Al Hemsky to sit this one out along with Sabres Stalker, Sheldon Souray. Tough guys Ryan Stone and JF Jacques have been out of the lineup as well.

Ryan O’Marra was recalled from Springfield to play the D spot that Taylor Chorney vacated when he fell to injury. Winger Robert Nilsson is also on the shelf.

Bottomline: Sabres 5-2 winners
