#20 At Mon: 5 tries for 2 points but 1 will have to do

The problem with getting 1 point in Montreal on Tuesday night is not so much this night but the fact that it follows such a big string of 0 point nights. Every game that slips by with less than 2 points is just pushing the demand for some HUGE streak of hockey even farther.

But the team has now strung together 3 straight games with points. There has been shakiness, doubt and question marks in each and every 1 of them, but just maybe the team is at least finding its feet again after getting knocked to the deck in a confused state for multiple weeks.

A few quick notes:

1) Brandon Sutter continues to rise up and lead the way with 2 goals and 3 assists over the course of the 3 consecutive games with points. Albany...send more kids! Soon!

2) The top pairing. Tim Gleason and Joe Corvo were minus 2 after a minus 2 and 3 respectively on Sunday. Corvo did kick in 2 big power play points on Sunday, and yes I realize that +/- can be misleading, but if you lose big 5-on-5 with your best defenders on the ice every night, winning is an uphill battle.

3) Darn the shootout! Credit to Manny Legace for giving his team 5 chances to win. It would have been huge if Jussi could have managed consecutive shootout gamewinners, but it just was not to be.

Next up are 2 winnable home games with nice every other day spacing. If the Canes are going to climb back into the fight, they need to go from finding their bearings after the horrible streak to making up wins back to .500 very quickly.

If I can make the time, I will take a shot at writing up what it will take for the Canes to climb into the playoff chase and if it is even possible at this point.

Go Canes!
