Dear Ray,
Garth here. I remember speaking with you during the '06 Eastern Conference Finals. Its been a while since we last spoke. How ya been? Right about now you've had it up to here with all the losing in the Research Triangle, right? Don't hate me for saying this, but... your present team, the Hurricanes, is hard to watch. On several occassions, I've tried to sit and watch you play on my NHL Centre Ice package. Its bad hockey. I'm just tellin it like it is. You guys were once a relevant, Playoff-worthy squad. Today, its a shadow of its former self. On paper, you guys have solid players like Staal, Cole, LaRose, rod The Bod, Ward, yourself. Too bad the game is played on ice, not a legal pad.
Listen, the reason I'm reaching out to you is because I think you can help my friends in Buffalo to caulk a part of their game that is plaguing them and leaking like a a busted window in the frigid Buffalo night air these days. They are having a tough time finishing on a regular basis. Millsie is stealing games, a busted window in the Buffalo night air. Their D are active in the rush. They get balanced scoring from all four lines. Its a complete team. What they are missing is a bonafide sniper like you. A guy that has fast hands and fast feet. A guy who has a quick catch and an even quicker release. A guy that can put he bsicuit in the basket at key times in games. Buffalo need a guy to stimulate Thomas Vanek and Derek Roy right now. Before you tell that Pittsburgh want you to do the same for Sid and Geno, hear me out. Buffalo is a perfect place for you. Lindy Ruff's D-first system will allow you to create offense off the other team's defense. The city of Buffalo is starved for a winner. You'll be a rockstar in the 716 if you decide to wisely waive your NTC and agree to a trade to Buffalo. No team will offer you 3 years on an extension at your age. Take two years from Buffalo and skate to the late rounds of the Playoffs. They have young guns like Gerbe, Ennis, Kassian, and Foligno on the come. You'll be a perfect bridge to the future.
Take the night to think about it and I'll talk to you more on Friday at the rink.
Garth

Says here that Ilya Kovalchuk has turned down a 12 year $101+ million extension.
What a jackass!
He's not worth Ovechkin money. He plays one side of the puck and he disappears when the lights are their brightest.
Good on Wadell and Dudley for passing on this jake.
Kovy will be a Devil. Johnny Oduya, rookie winger Niclas Bergfors and Patrice Cormier, and a draft pick, likely a first rounder is Atlanta bound.
