Let's get the obvious out of the way here right now... It doesn't matter whether the ruling was right or wrong on the Daniel Sedin non-goal. What matters is that the NHL can't and will not make the rule better to avoid this kind of embarrassment.
Exhibit A:
Exhibit B:
Follow that up with Mike Murphy stating that 'there was no distinct kicking motion' and you have the makings of a controversy. Forget the conspiracy theories, forget the alleged bias and move on to the real issue-why can't the NHL get it right? Either these are both goals or they are both non-goals. At some point the NHL has to look in the mirror and realize that they do themselves so much harm by not being consistent.
Speaking of consistent, the Kings PP. Is it that good or is the Canucks PK that bad? Right now I think it is a combination of both scenarios and AV needs to have his team looking at a lot of video and getting his squad to play with some aggression on the points.
There was not one bounce that went for the Canucks last night but I give that credit to the Kings. The biggest difference I see between the two teams is that the Kings are not giving the Canucks any space, free use of their sticks or time. In return the Canucks seem more than happy to let the Kings move around the front and back of their net regardless of puck possession. When the Canucks are in the offensive zone their sticks are all tied up, pushed away from the net and bodies spun around. Makes it really hard to get rebounds or be in position- it's an fix easy though. Move your feet and draw penalties.
No one said this series was going to be easy- at least no one I took seriously but I didn't expect the Canucks to make it this hard for themselves. It's gut check time and everyone on the team needs to make a better effort.
One final thought- do not rule out the psychological effect the Kings PP is having on the Canucks. The damage they have caused has been phenomenal, on the score sheet and in the Canucks' minds.
Two days to get ready for round 4 and for the Canucks that is going to require a lot of work.
