It's not a secret that I love hockey, and it's really not a secret that I'll wipe you all over the ice in NHL '10 --- okay, maybe that is. Finding time to blow the dust off my PS3 and hit the sticks is becoming harder as my daily schedule and list of priorities becomes longer, but that does't mean I'm completely void of fun.

For what it's worth, the NHL series has made incredible strides over the years, and I really have little to no qualms with the game again this season. Yeah, the fighting system needs some serious work, and being sucked into the boards from ten feet out by Wade Redden seems more fairytale than anything else. The rest of the game, however, is pretty complete, and I enjoy myself every time I turn that bad boy on.

Now, for the point of this blog. In recent years(unsure if it's the case for this season's edition), the MLB the Show series, oft regarded as the best sports game out, does something fairly unique with their in-game soundtracks. Instead of throwing a bunch of horrendous tracks on the system, they decided to go out and pull some of the best calls of the season by various announcers. To them, the most important thing is avoiding the payments to big name musicians, but to sports fans it's pure gold - there's nothing like reliving 30 of the best memories in the past year. I've loved it since day one, and think it makes the game what it is. Loading screen has now turned into a "Man, I hope this loading screen is paired with A-Rod's 9th inning blast off Junichi Tazawa."

Back to the NHL series. Why doesn't the NHL take the same approach for next year's edition, or at least for '12? I'm going through the playlist of that game as we speak, and to be frank, it's disgusting. I'm going to blame my next three ear infections on whatever comes out of my speakers during NHL '10 gameplay it's so bad.

Now, our job. Let's get a compilation of some of the best goal/save calls of the '10 season. Any announcer is fine, as long as it's not Dave Mishkin.

I'm going to go with a few of the obvious, including the most important goal in U.S. history. Canada won the gold medal, and rightfully so, but Zach Parise's score with just seconds left had me vacuuming my room just to keep my pulse down. Crosby's score in OT should be in there too, but I'll throw up just searching for it on YT.

Edit - Okay, I did it.

Crosby's overtime winnah!

Zach Parise's improbable goal:

Boucher stonewalls Olli Chokinen:

Daniel Sedin's Trick vs. Calgary

Ryan Kesler downs Canada

And so forth. The rule for picking is simple - it should be both an iconic play and a solid call from the booth. For instance, the Matty Carkner goal against Pittsburgh would meet the requirements of the former, but not the latter. Seriously, what a pathetic call.
