Here we go on attempt number two of Fake News Fridays...
Oilers draft Taylor Hall, trade him for Richard Park
Oilers wanted an "established superstar
In a surprising move, the Edmonton Oilers drafted the star sensation Taylor Hall with the first pick in the 2010 NHL Entry draft, then traded him to the New York Islanders for Richard Park.
"We love the potential that Hall has but we wanted an established superstar and Park is the best out there, I'm told," Oilers GM Steve Tambellini said. "Everywhere we go, we hear 'Richard Park is the next superstar' and I really couldn't pass that up."
And the fact that he has 95 goals and 227 points in 684 games?
"We think he is just primed for a breakout season," Tambellini said. "If you combine with Mike Comrie's ability to do things that should seem possible, you've got the makings of a great line."
Comrie, of course is the hockey play who is marrying Hilary Duff despite her hoard of preteen stalkers.
"If he can handle those, he can handle anything," Duff said. "I'm so proud of the opportunity he has now. I mean I don't understand this hockey thing or know who this Richard Park guy is but I know Mike's excited."
Man's meanwhile are enraged.
"Maybe we should actually fire someone from the staff, instead of just having them move upstairs," one fan said. "It's time we rebuilt this team from the top down, now starting with that (explicative) who did this trade."
Meanwhile, Team President Kevin Lowe doesn't know where the ire is coming from.
"What? Did we overpay for Penner again?" Lowe said. "I haven't really paid attention lately."
In the meantime, the Oilers will just have to play with what they have and hope Park works out.
"It's a good thing we don't have a winter classic this year," another fan said. "With that team, we'd juts embarrass ourselves on national TV."
