Hockey on the Tube

What a terrific comeback by the New Jersey Devils last night, down three goals, to win it in the shootout.

I thought the overtime was one of the best I've seen on TV. Just end to end action and scoring chances.

You had Leafs TV with Joe Bowen and Harry Neal doing the broadast as part of the Center Ice package. My one-year-old grandson, Lucas, watched the OT and shootout and he was into it.

I think the reason the kid was into it was Bowen's excitement in calling the third period and OT came across very well on the tube. The kid wouldn't take his eyes off the TV.

Not every announcer can make a game even more exciting with voice inflexion, but I felt that's exactly what was happening with the Leafs TV broadcast. Well done, fellas.

I enjoy channel surfing through the hockey package and the Devils game was a helluva lot more exciting to listen and watch than the Nashville-Chicago broadcast.

I realize a lot of hockey purists still loathe the shootout, but did you hear the Devils' crowd get into it? This is what the fans want. They got it.

If only Comcast carried the Center Ice package in HD ...

Memo to Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock: Notice that Devils coach Claude Julien stayed with his lines the entire game, even when down 3 goals?

Look for Antero Niittymaki to make a fourth, straight start in goal tomorrow at New Jersey. I'm basing this on my discussion with Hitchcock yesterday. I think Esche starts next week either in Buffalo or in Florida.

Yo Garth! Two feet of snow in Buffalo already! Good grief!
