Niagara, NY - John Klingberg of Sweden scored just 57 seconds into the first period, and carried the momentum the entire game with a 7-1 rout over Norway at Dwyer Arena on Sunday.
After Klingberg’s first goal, it took Sweden just five minutes to tack on another one, this time by Sebastian Wannstrom. The second period saw a two-goal effort from Patrick Cehlin, though he missed a penalty shot awarded after being tripped by Norway’s Daniel Rokseth. Sweden tacked on three more goals during the third period from efforts by Tim Erixon, Gabriel Landeskog and Carl Klingberg. Norway’s only goal also game during the third period from Eirik Borresen.
Sweden’s offense wasn’t the only part that overpowered Norway; their defense only allowed 11 shots on goal, with goalie Fredrik Petersson Wentzel saving 10 of them. Norway’s goalie Lars Volden on the other side of the ice stopped 39 of 46 shots and was kept in the game the entire sixty minutes.
Norway will try and bounce back against the Czech Republic on Monday Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. Sweden’s next game will be Tuesday Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. when they face Russia.
