Niagara, NY - The Czech Republic held off Norway despite four penalties in the third period for a 2-0 win Monday at Dwyer Arena. Norway is now 0-2 in the preliminary round.
The Czech’s got things started after a scoreless first period with a goal by Tomas Rachunek a little over halfway in the second. After a whirl of four penalties in the first five minutes, including a 10 minute misconduct given to Adam Sedlak, the Czech Republic got another goal, this time from Antonin Honejsek.
Czech goalie Marek Mazanec got the shutout, stopping all 21 shots on goal. Norway’s Steffen Soberg got the start after fellow goalie Lars Volden allowed seven goals in three periods against Sweden Sunday afternoon, and saved 36 of 38 shots.
Norway will play again on Wednesday Dec. 29 at HSBC Arena against Canada at 7:30 p.m. The Czech Republic will be back in action Tuesday, Dec. 28 when they will also take on Canada at 4 p.m. at HSBC Arena.
