Buffalo - Brayden Schenn notches a goal and four assists as Canada defeats the Czech Republic 7-2 Tuesday afternoon in preliminary round action at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo.

The Czechs got on the board with their first shot of the game just 49 seconds into the first period when Antonin Honejsek fired a wrister form the circles. Unfortunately, it was all down hill from there for the Czech Republic as they'd only post one more shot on goal in the period as Canada dominated play.

Schenn got things going on the power play late in the period with a wrister off the rush with Ryan Johansen. Two minutes later and again with the man advantage, Schenn sent a cross ice pass through traffic to Jaden Schwartz who put it past Filip Novotny to take the 2-1 lead.

Early in the second period, Zack Kassian was given a match penalty for checking Petr Senkerik in the head. He was knocked out and was taken off the ice on a stretcher and later taken to the hospital for evaluation. Kassian was assessed a five minute penalty, disqualified for the rest of this game and will receive an automatic one-game suspension. Upon the discretion of the IIHF officials, he could serve a longer suspension.

On the ensuing power play for the Czechs, Schenn scooped up the puck off a blueline turnover, dished it to Louis LeBlanc who made it 3-1 with a shorthanded tally. Nearly four minutes later, Schenn again gets in on the action as he passes to Ryan Ellis on a delayed penalty. Cody Eakin scored with 17 seconds left in the period to make it 5-1 heading into intermission.

Things got chippy in the third, as Martin Frk speared Erik Gudbranson in the most unfriendly of places and earned a game disqualification for it. On the ensuing five minute power play, Canada scored twice with goals from Tyson Barrie and Jared Cowen to make it 7-1.

With just under five minutes in the game and Quinton Howden in the box for tripping, Jakub Jerabek scored from the blueline for the 7-2 final.

While Schenn earned Player of the Game for his five point performance, it should also be noted that Ryan Ellis, Canada's captain, earned a goal and three assists on the night.

Canada will play Norway, Wednesday, December 29th at 7:30pm ET while the Czech Republic will play Sweden on Thursday December 30th at 3pm ET.
