The Sabres dodge a scud missile with a four point win over the team that is directly in front of it in the squeaky tight eastern Playoff race. The canes entered the game with a seven point lead on Buffalo (48 to 41). Cody McCormick, Nathan Gerbe, and Drew Stafford scored to give their team the one goal win. Buffalo now trail Carolina by five points, and are headed to Long Island for a Saturday night friendly with the Islanders.

3rd Period

3-1 Buffalo
Cody McCormick draws a key high stick penalty on Pitkanen, and on the ensuing Powerplay, drew stafford buries his 15th of the season, and 5th in the past 6 games.

Darcy better lock up stafford now, in this his RFA elligible season.

2nd Period

2-1 Buffalo

Monty and Leopold start the scoring chance with a crisp D to D play up top. Puck to the net, Ward makes save, however, McCormick pots the rebound.

****

1-1
Tyler Myers takes a loose puck off the halfwall in his own end, gallops through the neutral zone and then into carolina territory. myers angled hard to the Canes net, and was checked into Cam Ward by Jay Harrison. Penalty Canes, right? Wrong. Myers is called for goaltender interference. LOUSY CALL! Eric Staal finds Ruutu on the re-direct. PPG.

1st Period:

1-0 Buffalo
Paul Gaustad was Buffalo's best forward in the Philly loss. He scored and added a helper on Cody McCormick's goal as well. His fast hands and fast feet are earning him praise from his coach and teammates. Goose won a puck battle behind Cam Ward's net, then, found Nathan Gerbe all alone in the slot. Gerbs wasted little time putting the biscuit in the basket.

Kudos to my friends, Joe Pinter and Matt Gould, of MSG, for inviting Michael Peca onto the set to be Kevin Sylvester's guest analyst tonight. Talk about a great addition to the team!

"Captain Crunch" has forgotten more about the game than some "analysts" will ever know.

Having just retired from an illustrious NHL career, Peca is the perfect blend of knowledge and opinion. He calls a spade a spade, and he's not afraid to criticize players who are dogging it. He props those who deserve it.

I love this move, boys. Can we make it a permanent one?
