Its February 2, and the Playoffs began last night for the idle Buffalo Sabres. Lindy Ruff's Lads are in the garage until Friday night when they play the Sid and Geno-less Guins.

In the meantime, the Eastern mosh pit is a tumultuous and unpredictable place right now. Elows are up, and teams are not above eye gouging and slew footing one another in order to leap frog one another to get to the eight hole.

Tonight, your homework assignment is to root for the Montreal canadiens to bury a sedative blow dart into the hide of the Florida Panthers. The Cats trail Buffalo by a point, having lost in the shootout Monday night to Carolina.

You wil also want to break character and cheer for the Maple Leafs tonight to cripple the Canes on Tobacco Road.

Losses in regulation for Florida and Carolina will benefit Buffalo tremendously.

Atlanta are idle until they skate into Calgary Thursday night.

Heading into tonight's slate of action, Buffalo have four games in hand on Atlanta, two in hand on Carolina, and one in hand on Florida. After tonight, Buffalo will have three in hand on the Canes and two in hand on Florida.
