TSN's Bob McKenzie is tweeting that NY Islanders players Matt Martin and Trevor Gillies will face in-person disciplinary hearings tonight in Buffalo. The meetings will take place at the team hotel. A source tells me that the NHL wishes to expedite the discipline against the Islanders, rather than to wait for a Monday morning conference call. I applaud Colin Campbell for getting in his car and trekking down the QEW in order to punish three knuckleheads. The excessive, violent nature of these players' transgressions warrants swift and sudden justice. According to the CBA, in-person hearings give the NHL authority to suspend a player for six games, or more.

If ever there were an opportunity to send a message of respect for opponents to every player, coach, manager, and owner in the league, now is the time.

Personally, if Matt Cooke gets four for hits freight train on Tyutin, then Martin and Gillies deserve ten games each. I thought it despicable the image of Islander Gillies taunting Tangradi and trying to goad the injured Pen into another fight as he lay on the ice in agony after having his head driven into the glass by the classless Gillies. What a puke!

The Islanders and Sabres will play at 3pm Sunday.

Its not yet clar whether or not Haley of the Islanders will be facing suspension for his role in the fights that he was involved .

Eric Goddard of the Pens is already suspended ten games for leaving the bench during the fight between Haley and Pens goaler, Brent Johnson. Niagara-On-The -Lake native, Zenon Konopka, is rumoured to be facing a suspension for leaving the Islander bench during a fight.

Pat Kaleta and Paul Byron will play on Sunday.

Which vet sits out? Niedermayer or Hecht?

Spoke with a scout last night who told me that Buffalo are interested in procurring the services of Nick Foligno from Ottawa.

Foligno is in his third season in Ottawa. He has 9 goals and 12 assists in 55 game this season. The rationale is that if Buffalo are looking to walk away from Niedermayer, Hecht or Grier, then Foligno could fill the bill on the wall on the third and fourth lines. Buffalo are looking to add requisite pieces in anticipation of making the Playoffs. Foligno has Playoff experience and has a year left on his 2 year, $2.4 ($1.2 million x 2) million contract.

Nick is the older brother of Sabre prospect Marcus Foligno.
