The Sabres play the Islanders at 3pm today. I'm calling my shot now: 5-2 Buffalo wins it. 59 points heading into Montreal on Tuesday night.

At 5pm today, two games of tremendous impact to the Sabres will be taking place.

The Carolina Hurricanes go toe to toe with the Atlanta Thrashers in the ATL.

San Jose are in Sunrise to play the Panthers.

The Canes and Thrashers begin the day tied with 60 points. Buffalo are right behind them with 57. A win puts the Sabres only one point behind the loser of the CAR/ATL grudge match.

Buffalo have only played 53 games. The Canes 56, and the Thrashers 57.

$100,000.

Thats the magnitude of the fine that the NHL has levied against Charles Wang, Garth Snow, and the NY Islanders for their part in the donnybrook against the Penguins on Long Island on Friday night.

Colin Campbell has suspended also levied suspensions aginst the aggressors who assisted in the elevation of the rage and chaos in that game.

Trevor Gillies has been suspended for nine games for his brutality committed against Eric Tangradi of the Pens. Tangradi suffered what appears to be a concussuion as a result of the elbow that Gillies deleivered the the young Pen's head.

Matt Martin is now suspended for four games for the sucker punch that he threw at back of the head of Pens veteran Max Talbot.

Eric Godard of the pens has been suspended ten games for leaving the bench to join a fight between Haley of the Isles and Pens goalie Brent Johnson.

Be sure to thank the Tampa Bay Lightning for beating the Carolina Hurricanes in OT on Saturday night. The Thrashers and Canes are now tied with 60 points.

Buffalo have 57, however, and can pull to within one point of their closest competitors with a regulation win over the Bridgeport Islanders on Sunday afternoon in Buffalo.
