After Kyle Cumiskey comes the frustrating Kevin Porter on the Avalanche player review.

Player stats: 74 games played, 14 goals, 11 assists, 25 points, -11 rating
Nicknames: Ports, Fail One
Contract status: RFA

Porter must be the most frustration player to watch for Avalanche fans. Sometimes he can cut through the middle of the ice, put the puck on his backhand and fire it by the goaltender.

Then, he can grab the puck with a wide open net and fire it two feet wide of the net.

Porter is a former Hobey Baker winner who has decent hands, good speed and poor defense. When the puck is caught in the defensive zone, Porter seems lost and doesn't know where to go and so he just chases the puck.

If he could improve his defense, hit more and be more accurate with his shot, he could become a grinding forward who can occasionally score. For now, however, he's an AHL level forward who can fill in in case of an injury.

Highlight of the Year

An example of Porter playing well when he won the Avs' game in overtime.

2011-12 outlook

Porter has the skill set to stick in the NHL but he needs to refine his game and work on his shot. For now, though, he would probably be served best by more time in the AHL.

Somehow Philippe Dupuis was skipped but the player reviews will be back tomorrow with his review.
