The only stat from Buffalo's 3-2 win over the Leafs that resonates wtth me is:
3 for 3 on the Power Play
First Stafford. Then Ehrhoff. Then Adam.
You play with fire, you're gonna get burned.
This Buffalo powerplay is a lethal weapon that will propel the Sabres to the top of the special teams charts, and by extension, the top of the Eastern Conference standings this season.
Ehrhoff and Myers are getting their low, hard bombs through from the top of the formation. Ehrhoff's shot has the power and intensity of a classic German Luger pistol, whil Myers has Remington rifle accuracy. Put 'em together and the Dmen and opposing goalies of the NHL better start wearing Kevlar vests! Vulgar display of power!
Stafford, Roy, Pominville, Adam, Ennis and the forwards are getting rebounds. Vanek is taking a beating with his net front prescence, like Rick Vaive did many moons ago.
Buffalo's PP zone time was ridiculous on Saturday night. They seemed to be playing tether ball with the puck. The reason for their success was their zone time. On the Stafford goal, the Buffalo PP controlled the puck for 1:40 before Ennis found Stafford in the blue for the goal. The Sabres forwards and D used fast hands and faster feet to control the biscuit, thus, pulling the Leafs out of position.
Ditto the Ehrhoff goal, where Vanek took a beating in the blue. Vanek is not a window, he's a steel door. Dude is impossible to move when he posts up and sets his edges in the blue. Gustavsson had no idea what happened on the Ehrhoff goal.
Teams have until Noon Monday to claim Kotalik and Morrisonn.
If they clear waivers, "585" will be their new area code. Thus, trimmimg $5,075,000 off this season's cap. The Sabres will be $1.4ish million under the cap after these waiver transaction have been completed.
