After a stellar pre-season which many feel should earn him a spot on the opening night roster, the Winnipeg Jets have agreed to an entry-level deal with 2011 first round pick Mark Scheifele.

The Kitchener, ON native will earn $925,000, plus $700,000 in average bonuses, with a cap hit of $1.625 million, according to TSN.

The Jets took Scheifele seventh overall in this summer's draft. In five pre-season games, the 18-year old led the Jets and finished second in the league in points with four goals and four assists, two behind Mike Ribeiro of the Dallas Stars. Three of his goals were scored on the power play.

Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff revealed on Monday that Scheifele will be on the opening night roster when they open up the season against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday, and the team will monitor his progress on a daily basis.

"There really are no expectations. He'll be in the lineup opening night and we'll take it day-by-day in those regards. There are no guarantees of anything. I met with him this morning and we're all on the same page in that we know it's an accomplishment of where he's gotten to at this point and we're just going to evaluate on a daily basis, on a game by game basis."

Last season, Scheifele played his OHL rookie year with the Barrie Colts where he led all rookies with 53 assists. The 6-foot-2 centreman also had 22 goals for 75 points in 66 games played.

Though Scheifele now has a deal in place, that doesn't mean he won't be sent back to the Colts. Winnipeg will have the customary nine NHL games to decide the 18-year old's fate this season before buring a year of his contract.
