In a quiet start to the season that's left the Bruins with a 1-2-0 record and just five goals scored in 180 minutes of hockey, one of the few bright spots has been the play of Boston winger Rich Peverley. Play that's officially gone noticed with confirmation of a three-year agreement between the B's and Peverley that will keep the 29-year-old Ontario native in town through the 2014-15 season.
Off to a hot start of two goals in three games, and with six goals and nine points in 26 total games as a Bruin dating back to his trade to Boston at the 2011 trade deadline, Peverley's emergence on the Patrice Bergeron line in lieu of the retired Mark Recchi has been a seamless transition that Boston's without question seen the advantages of.
"We are reading off each other pretty nice," Bergeron said in regards to his budding chemistry with Peverley. "I feel we are creating a lot of chances off the rush and even in zone by our forecheck and by the way we keep moving our feet."
Peverley, who had 144 points in 256 NHL games between Atlanta and Nashville before coming to Boston, will be 32 when the deal expires.
According to sources, the deal will come with a 3.25 million dollar cap-hit. No word on any no-movement clauses in the deal.
More to come when the parties speak.
