Robyn Regehr told me after the 4-3 regulation loss to Tampa that "they are a skilled team and we did a good job of denying them quality chances. We jumped on them early, we lagged in the second period, but then we poured it on in the third period. We have to score on the chances that we had, especially in the third period".
Regehr does not mince words.
He and his team mateswere very disappointed in the end because they had tampa on the ropes and they let them wiggle their way back into the game.
Buffalo are now 0hfer three against South East teams, losing twice to Tampa and once to Carolina. Winless at home.
The Sabres quickly avenge the disappointment from the 3-0 loss in Tampa on Saturday night.
Thomas Vanek scores his 23rd goal in 26 games vs. Tampa.
Lindy wanted a fast, dominant start, and boy, did he ver get one!
The first five minutes of this game have been dominating by Buffalo's potent forecheck and their ability to convert mistakes by Tampa into goals.
2-0 Buffalo
Vanek scores his seventh of the season at 1:56. Then, 35 seconds later, Brad Boyes bursts out the doghouse and onto the score sheet with his first of the season.
Lightning have done a good job of getting their feet moving and challenging the Buffalo forwards at the blueline. The Lecavalier goal seems to have energized them at a time when it appreared that Buffalo were goingto take the game over.
Nate Thompson banked a puck in off Ryan Miller with 60 ticks remaining on the first period clock
Bad goal to surrender at that juncture of the game.

Sabres lead first perido shots 15-10.
****
Sabres controlled the puck and carried the play for the first 13 minutes of the period, howover, the Lecavalier goal boosted their spirits and served as a correction for all that ailed them in the first period.
Buffalo will want to revert back to getting pucks deep and slamming the Tampa D. It worked in spades in the early stages of the first period. Why deviate?
The period begins with Robyn Regehr absoliutely destroying Vinny Lecavalier with a linebacker blast on the wall in front of the Buffalo bench!
****
Sabres bringin the wood to the Bolts here in the second period. Forwards and D finishing checks with dexterity and pugnacity.

Regehr is in a surly mood and he asks Ryan Malone to dance. They throw bombs, but dont get 5 for fighting. Good news because Regehr will be able to go back and finish what he started.
Buffalo wake up from their lumber slumber and have controilled play for the majority of the perido.
Ryan Malone scores on the breakaway to make it 4-2.
Nathan Gerbe scores with 49 seconds remaining in regulation.
Too little, too late.
Sabres dominate for 14 minutes in the first period. They lost the second period. they play the third period like a house on fire. Inconsistency dooms them in the end.
That, and that they could not cash in their many scoring chances, especially in the third period.
