MILLER SHOOTS DOWN RANGERS |
|
|
|
NOW YOU KNOW WHY I CALL HIM KILLER MILLER. RIGHT?
39-19.
The Sabres were badly outshot tonight, however, they were able to cash in their chances when they had them. Killer Miller was brilliant in goal and emerged the victor in this one.
The Sabres won the faceoff battle 56% to 44%. Dru was 15-6, Goose was 6-3.
The Sabres blocked 20 shots, NYR 12.Campbell had 5. Spacek 4. Spaceks block in the dying seconds of the third period insured OT.
The Sabres outhit the Rangers 22-15. Toni Lydman led the hit parade with 5, while Spacek added 3.
******
Ryan Miller improves his season record to 5-1 in shootouts.
Who's better on breakways than Killer Miller?
******
Danny Briere scored the game winner in the Shootout on Weekes.
What is it about this Sabres team that makes them dig down deep late in games?
"You don't want to get too ahead of yourself, but we're playing to win as many games as we can," Briere said.
"We're inching to our goal, inching closer to the playoffs."
****
What was Tom Renney thinking putting Weekes in goal instead of Lundqvist ?!!
******
The Rangers were 2 for 5 on the PP.
The Sabres were ohfer--- again!
They lost the 5 on 5 portion of the game.
Ryan Miller was out of this world tonight. He was the game's #1 by a country mile.
Buffalo lead the game 2-0, trailed 3-3, tied it to force OT, then they won it in OT.
No lead is safe versus these Sabres.
The Sabres are now 4-0 versus Jagr and the Blueshirts this season.
Speaking of Jagr, where was he in the Shootout? Renney decided to leave him off the ice. Curious.
**
Shanny was not a happy man after Miller stuffed him in the Shootout.
"A loss still feels like a loss, and it wasn't a happy dressing room, but I liked a lot of things about our game tonight," Shanahan said.

Back on ther road again. The sabres are 10-1 away from home this season. They play Washington tomorrow night. Then its off to Tampa and Sunrise. Then, Montreal and New Jersey.
I say they come home 4-1.
5-0 would not suck, either!
*****
BLOW BY BLOW ACCOUNT OF THE GAME THAT WAS:
Miller vs. Weekes.
Weekes is 5-10 lifetime vs. Buffalo.
*****
To start, Lindy rolls out:
Hecht-Dru-Stafford
Max-Kotalik-Vanek
Paille-Briere- Pommer
Peters-Goose-Mair
If, Kotalik is ineffective at centre, Lindy won't hesitate to replace him with Hecht.
****
Miller is menacing Jagr ion the PK. The golaie is the best penalty killer tonight!
*****
Weekes just ROBBED Pomminville's one-timer! Nice save.
Paille thought he had his first goal a moment before Pommer's chance, Weekes made that save as well.
****
Buffalo have fast feet and fresh legs early on. The Sabres forwards are carrying the play in the first 8 minutes.
***
Miller just made a strong stick save on Straka all alone in from, from Jagr.
***
Max fires high and wide on a Vanek 2 on 1. Dish it, Maxi!
***
Briere, Pommer, Paille just missed o a tick-tack-toe play down low.
*****
Miller just stoned Nylander on a dangerous play in the crease. No rebound.
*****
Smokin Hecht cranks one in off Weekes' right pad!
1-0 Buffalo.
*****
After 20 minutes:
ADVANTAGE BUFFALO.
Better forward play. Better goaltending. Better puck pressure.
******
SECOND PERIOD:
Soupy Scores
2-0 Buffalo!
Top Shelf! Backhander!
******
This game is all about 5 on 5 dominance for Buffalo. No penalties called in the game... yet.
*****
Me and my big mouth.
Jagr mugged Max.
5 on 4 Buffalo
*****
The prescence of Hecht is a welcomed reaquaintance for Buffalo's PP. He's such a slippery player downlow. The Ranger D have to respect Jochen's quick shot ability.
*****
Sabres D do such a good job of reversing the puck and moving it out of their end in one pass. Soupy, Spacek, Paetsch, Teppo, Kalinin, and Toni have all been listening to James Patrick. Their D looks very calm and they have grace under pressure, especially against the Nylander-Jagr-Straka line.
******
Callahan-Hulweg-Orr are a decent enery line. This is Callahan's first career NHL game.
******
Rozsival Scores on one-timer with 5 Sabres in Millers crease.
2-1 Buffalo
Teppo misfires/fails to clear the zone and Nylander feeds Rozsival.
*****
Hecht-Goose-Mair line pressures the Rangers D and they're throwing their bodies around.
*****
Rangers outshoot Sabres 10-3 in the second.
NYR lead shots on goal 21-14 after 40 minutes.
Rangers are the better team in the second. They appeared to pace themselves and they skated well for the whole period. Buffalo's legs slowed down in the second.
*****
Buffalo need a quick start to start the third.
The Rangers will come out flying....
****
4 on 4, Nylander just got the gate for NYR.
*****
Miller just robbed Cullen from Betts on a nifty 2 on 1.
****
Weekes just barely stops a Kotalik laserbeam, off a turnover in the neutral zone.
*****
Soupy --- 2 minutes for slashing..replays show that Campbel's stick barely grazed Cullen's shin guard. Soft call...
*****
Jagr feeds Straka.
2-2 PP goal.
You cannot let Jagr walk it in from the half wall on the PP. The guy makes his living on the half wall. Too musch of a gap, no sticks in the passing lanes.
*****
With Goose in the box, Nylander pops NYR's third.
3-2 PP goal.
******
Soupy to Max, who feeds Druuuuuuurrrrrryyyyyyy!!
Nice soccer action with the skates, Dru !
3-3
Dru's 15th goal
*****
The Sabres dominated the first. Rangers dominated the second, and the first 8 minutes of the third.
Its been all Sabres for the past 7 minutes of the third.
****
31-19 shots on goal for NYR
*****
3:38 left Vanek goes off for holding
*****
NYR are 2 for 3 on the PP tonight.
*****
Huge PK for Sabres.
Spacek and Hecht were strong.
*****
Back to 5 on 5 hockey......
Miller HUGE save on Hulweg with 35 seconds left.....
*****
OT for the third time in the past three times these two teams have met.
4 on 4 Time
*****
Miller saves the day at 1:40 on Betts!!!
WHOA!!
******
RYAN FREAKIN MILLER !!!! Stones Rozsival !!
*****
Miller stoned Prucha, Shanny, and Nylander in the Shootout!
