As much as I don't want to talk Bruins/Canucks anymore, enough people asked me for my thoughts on what is going on in the media, so here it is.
Both sides need to grow the f##% up. The league needs to step in and squash this right now because it is downright embarrassing to the game. We don't see Yankee and Red Sox reporters going back and forth at each other a week after their series ends. We don't hear Steelers fans and media still crying sour grapes over the Super Bowl. And I'm certainly sure that the Heat media aren't whining about Dallas anymore. It was a great game, now let's move on and talk about something else. Both teams a good and both teams have a very good chance at meeting again in June.
As far as Shawn Thornton's ambushing of Tony Gallagher, my only problem with that it's still a story. I have no problem with anything Thornton said. He gave his opinion and he's entitled to that, whether anyone agrees with it, that’s a different story. My biggest problem isn't with Shawn Thornton though; it's with the media giving him so much attention. The guy is a decent player but he plays less than 9 minutes a game. He had 1 assist in the Bruins playoff run last year and him and everyone else acts like he was a key cog in the Bruins Stanley Cup win.
In my opinion, a player's interviews should not exceed the amount of time they play. Thornton played 9 minutes in the game, yet he seemed to hold court at his locker for 20-30 minutes, followed by countless, TV and radio appearances in the past week. To me that's kind of like getting the 12th man on an NBA teams opinion on the game or asking the 3rd string quarter back what went wrong with the game.
To me, Thornton is right now sliding down that slippery sloop that Sean Avery went down many years back and Bruins fans should be a little concerned about that. He seems to be thinking the game is about him and not the team right now. His antics during the game, where he was looking to start a fight every time he was on the ice was selfish, and likely led the way for the undisciplined play that cost the Bruins the game. Boston won the Cup because they were a team, and on that team Thornton played a minuscule role. Every interview has been me this and I did that. The guy is starting to sound more like Al Bundy and less like a hockey player.
Congrats Shawn, you fought a guy bigger then you. I applaud you for standing up to him. It wonderful you fought seven Canucks and still wanted to go again, you are obviously and man of extreme stamina. All the Canucks and their fans should kneel at your feet for that. And you have fought three times in one period, WOW!, although I'm not sure I buy that, three times in a game maybe. What's next to come out of his mouth, maybe he had a threesome with Jessica Beil and Jennifer Aniston?
The NHL shouldn't allow this any further. The game needs to talk to the stars more and the fourth liners less. The fact Thornton has had more publicity over the past week than the Sedin's, Toews, Crosby and Ovechkin combined this whole season is a joke. For the NHL to be successful, they need the stars in the spotlight. They need them on the TV and Radio shows, not the Shawn Thornton's of the league.
Well that my opinion on this whole debacle and it's the last I'm going to talk about it. I'll have the Blues/Canucks preview a little later.
Thanks for reading.
Enjoy your day.
