I've wondered in past if teams have intentionally lost so they could pick higher at the NHL Draft. So what happens if two teams intentionally try to lose? In a diseased sort of way, I hope that's the case tonight. I'd love to see the Oilers and Habs fill an entire game with bad passes, late hits, cheap shots, and ugly line changes.
Is Edmonton trying to lose or trying to win? You be the judge...
- What line will Linus Omark play on? If you see the offensively gifted Omark line up with Lennart Petrell and Eric Belanger, will that be a sign the Oilers are trying to lose?
- If the defensively-challenged Corey Potter is playing instead of the defensively-solid Andy Sutton, is that a sign of game throwing?
- What about the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins/Ales Hemsky line pairing that isn't getting any even-strength offense. Does that continue, and if so, what does it mean?
- Or in goal...Does it mean something if the Oilers play "Can't Make a Save" Khabibulin or "Trip Over Your Own Feet" Dubnyk?
- Decisions by the bench boss...do they indicate anything? You know, weird line combinations, bad changes, strange ice time allocations, questionable player decisions for special teams...
Such is life with the Edmonton Oilers. They could be trying to win right now, or they could be trying to lose. There is no way to know either way, because no matter what they do, it all seems questionable.
But why save all the hate for the Oilers. Hey, those Habs...
- You have to feel for PK Subban and Carey Price. Talk about being alone on a deserted island without food, toilet paper, or something to read. It's a good thing both have massive talent, because I'm not sure one or both won't pull a Patrick Roy at some point during their career. I would have asked to be dealt 20 times by now if I was either guy.
- Scott Gomez is a worse version of Eric Belanger. Say that out loud to yourself, and then consider what you've said for five minutes. You'll hurt your head.
- David Desharnais is the Habs leading scorer. Seriously? The Habs might be the one team in the entire league the Oilers can push around physically. Desharnais makes Bettman seem like Chara.
- Who wins the Best Suicide Pass award? Ryan Whitney or Chris Campoli?
The Oilers might accidentally win this game because they are at home and half the Habs roster is injured. Although names like Raphael Diaz and Travis Moen wouldn't scare me even if they were healthy enough to play.
The one good thing about tonight's game? The Oilers have no D, and the Habs have no talent, so there could be plenty of goals and reckless play. If I'm Tom Renney, I'm pulling Khabibulin after the opening face-off and not telling my team I'm doing it (I loved Hall beaking Renney earlier in the season when he did this).
Talk about a completely pointless game. I wonder what kind of freak show TLC will have on tonight? A show with a 600lbs agnostic polygamist bearded midget in a beauty pageant would have more playoff implications than tonight's Oilers/Habs game does. Viva la suck.
