Darcy Regier and his scouts entered the 2012 entry draft looking for size, snarl, and skill at the pivot. Darcy hits back to back homers by selecting two New School G's: Grigorenko and Girgensons.
The Sabres have now drafted three staright Europenas with their first round draft choices after years of selecting only Canadians and Americans in the first round.
Both players are power forwards in the truest sense of the term.
My bud, Kevin Snow conducted exclusive interviews with Grigorenko and Girgensons after they left the draft stage:

With the 12th pick in the NHL Draft the Sabres select Mikhail Grigorenko.
So much for the myth that the Sabres don't draft Russians.
The Sabres get their big centre with play making ability.
Question is: How do you keep this kid motivated? Is he the next Max Afinogenov? You know what I mean, give a little here and a little there.
The Sabres traded out of the 21st pick with Calgary to the 14th spot and they grabbed Zemgus Girgensons, is another big centre man.
At 6'2, 200, this 18 year old plays with snarl.
NHL Central Scouting's Jack Barzee
"He plays right on the edge, plays an aggressive, physical game. He's played with injuries and has a lot of internal toughness. He's got a great set of hands and is a team guy. I think the higher level he goes, the more he stands out, the more he puts people on the edge of their seats because he can score and finish.
