Vancouver is a hard team to look at this draft. Mike Gillis showed his "Moneyball" colors, taking a group of '92 born players, many of them headed to the NCAA, rather than the fresh '94s that were the focus of the 2012 Draft.
26th Overall - Brendan Gaunce
Discussed at large here, there's never been a secret that I'm a big fan of this power center. Coming in at six-foot-two and close to 215 lbs, Gaunce is a physical force with a high IQ on the ice to play in both ends. Able to line up against the top teams and check them, or fill a scoring role, Gaunce adds to an already good group of centers on the West Coast.

57th Overall - Alexandre Mallet
Mallet adds another two-way center with some size, listed at six-foot-one, and a healthy 200 lbs. Mallet is a character player with a good dose of grit to his game. Mallet is the type of forward who can slot in anywhere in a Top Nine, and add something to the game, whether hitting like a truck, bringing the pain with his fists, or chipping in a goal. At his best, Mallet will need to play with skilled players and compliment them with his crash-and-bang north-south game, taking the puck to the net, and cashing in on loose pucks. He's been described as a poor-man's Burrows, but should fit into a role somewhere in the pro game.
