The scored an empty netter and added an assist in Quebec's 4-2 with over Jonathon Huberdeau and Saint John on Tuesday night. Grigo was +3 on the night.
His Remparts are 9-1 and sit all alone atop the CHL standings.
Grigo's rookie season saw him score 40 goals and add 45 assists in 59 games last season. He was +35.
His 2.2 points per game average this season is an eyelash behind the pace that Alex Radulov averaged in 2005-06 while in Quebec, Radulov would finish the '05-'06 regular season with 152 points. Grigorenko is a house on fire right now. Were he to stay healthy and play the full season in Quebec, Grigorenko might just slay the Radulov record.
Personally, I don't see the kid staying in Quebec after the NHL lockout ends.
I expect Darcy Regier to dispatch the Russian Rifle to Buffalo. The kid is too good to be playing in The Q right now. He's ready for a nine game tryout as the #1 centre with the Buffalo Sabres,
The NHL owners and NHLPA will meet on Thursday in Toronto to discuss the 50-50 proposal that was presented on Monday. If the players accept the offer, or a derivation thereof, the Sabres would begin their season on Saturday 11/3 at home vs. the Staal Bros. They would then take off four a four games in five nights bender with stops in Philly, San Jose, Phoenix, and Anaheim.
Grigorenko may well be in the Buffalo starting lineup when the padlocks get cut from the doors of all 30 NHL rinks.
Were I Regier, I'd have the Pegula G-6 gassed up and waiting on stand-by. The minute the lockout ends, I'd dispatch the plane to Quebec to pick up Grigorenko for his debut in Buffalo.
Tyler Myers was supposed to land in Klagenfurt, Austria on Tuesday. His arrival was delayed until Wednesday. After he landed, he was introduced to the media.
Myers remarked that he and his agents had been targeting EC-KAC, Klagenfurt and the EBEL. He searched with his agent for more than a month for a squad to play for during the NHL lockout. The fact that he's close friends with Tyler Spurgeon from his time played with the WHL Kelowna Rockets made Myers' decision to play in Klagenfurt all the more probable.
Myers said that he has heard that the nearly 5,000 fans attend games in Klagenfurt. Not quite the 18.690 he used to playing in front of in Buffalo.
Myers said that he sees himself as a solid defender who also loves to join the rush, especially on the bigger ice surfaces in Europe.
Of playing with Edmonton Oiler Sam Gagner, Myers said that he is looking forward to the opportunity, as he and #89 have met during the course of summer training.
I can see Myers and Gagner lighting up the opposition while on the PP Klagenfurt PP attack.
Myers said that he has been in contact with Austrian legend and Sabres mate, Thomas Vanek. Vanek encouraged the big man to play in Austria. #57 says that it will be very strange to suddenly play against Thomas Vanek on November 2. If the NHL lockout ends this or next week, the Myers-Vanek Austrian showdown may not come to fruition.
What is certain is that Tyler Myers will play at least 4 games for the EC KAC squad.
