Welcome back folks for the latest installment in my attempts to stump you around your knowledge of hockey figures from the past and present: Who Am I?
I can say with zero hesitation that I was very happy with how last weeks’ edition played out! Lots of guesses that failed to find the mark, and only after a prolonged and outside the box analysis did one reader finally pin down the target figure. Kudos to “Zippy” for solving the following clues:
1. I was an NHL draft pick. (Eighth round by St. Louis in 1981)
2. I played my entire NHL career with a single team. (Two seasons with the Blues, 81-82 & 82-83, albeit for a total of 42 games)
3. I began my NHL coaching career with an expansion team in their inaugural season. (Assistant coach for Ottawa in 1993-94).
4. I am a two time coach of the year. (2007 Jack Adams Trophy in the NHL, 1988 Brian Kilrea Coach of the Year Award in the QMJHL)
5. In my coaching career I was in three finals, winning one. (Lost in 2011 Stanley Cup Finals to Bruins, won QMJHL finals in 1988, lost in QMJHL finals in 1996)
Who Am I? I’m…….Alain Vigneault!!!
While I doubt I can capture the greatness that was watching that play out again, I’m striving to approach it again this week! I’ll remind everyone yet again to back up your answers as you post them. It’s one thing to throw out a name and another thing completely to show how you came to that conclusion! Do your best, have fun, and prove to me yet again how much I underestimate your hockey smarts!!!
1. I am a hall of famer.
2. I won a single Stanley Cup.
3. I had a particularly personal relationship with my head coach and General Manager during one of my latter pro seasons.
4. I was captain of an original six franchise.
5. I am best known in my post-playing career as a college coach.
