The fact that the NHL and NHLPA actually sat across from each other yesterday for seven hours - even if they didn't say a word to each other - has to be viewed as a major positive. Given all the difficulties that the two sides have shown just being able to be in the same room for minutes, let alone hours, has to provide some hope.
That said, the big discussions - Make Whole, 50/50 and protection of contracts - look to be on the table today and each one on their own could be a deal-breaker or staller. Hopes were raised just by the fact that each side met yesterday and showed some willingness to negotiate but the hard work is still to come. Of course to us, none of this matters as all we want is an agreement to be reached as quickly as possible.
My prior article on apathy still applies, and now that there may have been some thawing of the ice between the two sides, to fail would be even worse.
Get it done.
(PS, in terms of my house. 4.5 feet of water was in basement. Most of card and memorabilia collection was destroyed, even the ones on shelving, including hockey cards, Topps, OPC, Upper Deck etc. from the mid-80s to now. First floor had 4-6 inches of water and restoration company has recommended us ripping out the whole floor, including furniture etc. Still no power and staying at friends)
