Only three days ago,
Sean Monahan of the Ottawa 67's was pegged by NHL's Central Scouting Bureau as the top draft-eligible prospect plying their trade in the Ontario Hockey League when the bureau issued their preliminary draft rankings.
This afternoon, word came down from the OHL's league office that Monahan will receive a 10-game suspension for
this hit on Plymouth defenseman Colin MacDonald.
Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced the results of a review of an incident which took place in a game played in Ottawa on the 18th of November, 2012 involving the 67’s and the visiting Plymouth Whalers Hockey Club.
The incident reviewed was a checking to the head infraction involving player Sean Monahan of the Ottawa 67’s Hockey Club.
Based on a review of the incident, it is the position of the League that player Sean Monahan shall be suspended for ten (10) games effective immediately.
The league has taken the position, that for education purposes, announcements regarding supplementary discipline may be supported by video footage and additional rationale for all incidents involving checking to the head, checking from behind, and others at the discretion of the league.
Do you think this suspension will impact Monahan's draft status? Missing almost 15% of the regular season due to suspension could effect his play upon his return and perhaps drop him in upcoming draft rankings.
Do you think the punishment doled out by the Ontario Hockey League for the hit was too lenient, too harsh, or appropriate?
