Leafs are undefeated this season with Travis Green in the line up. Can Travis get the Leafs to .500 at home? will they beat the Canucks on Saturday? will Batman and Robin get away from the clutches of the Riddler? These questions and more will be answered on Saturday night.
I wonder what the property taxes are at Wayne Manor?
Pavel Kubina has certainly been taking it up a notch lately. Playing like the d-man the Leafs brass thought they were getting when he signed on July 1. Not sure if it's the number change, the bionic MCL or the fact that he's getting comfy in his flannel uniform, but make no mistake about it, he's playing well. Don't really care what he's making a year either. Nor should any fans. I really think making an argument about a players play based on his salary is kind of silly. Who cares if you stink at $450,000 a year or $4.5 million a season. Or if you play well for those amounts. At the end of the day, your team is on the ice, the best players you have in your organization will play. There is two people who should care about what a player is taking home in the bank account, the actual player and the GM who signed him. Other than that, a players income is really not relevant to anyone else. As a fan of a team or a member of the media covering a squad, what can you do about what a player makes? Nothing. So why worry about it. Are you only going to cheer for guys who make under $1 million, are you going to put a salary cap on what players you root for? If the answer is yes, then you're not a fan. Cheer for your team, regardless of who makes what. And no, I was not paid by the Pavel Kubina Foundation to write this, but I am open for negotiations.
How did Kaberle and Kubina get a 2 on 1 last night? Must have been a line change.
I was disappointed in the comments of Lindy Ruff after the game. Saying that the Leafs two wins were because Toronto had the advantage of playing the Sabres on their second night of back to back games. Such is life in the NHL, teams play back to back games. Ruff will get to even things up, Toronto and the Sabres play four more times, they have a home and home. Then the two other games are on the second night of back to back contests for Toronto. It all evens out. See, now isn't that fantastic, the same for everybody. Ah, what a wonderful world this is.
Was that a Tom Jones impersonator singing the anthems in Buffalo last night?
David Beckham, $50 million a year to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy. I turned $45million, big loss for the Galaxy as I have never miss a penalty kick.
On This Date
January 12th, 1977. The Leafs rookie goaltender Mike Palmateer faces 58 shots as Toronto edges the Kings 3-2 at MLG. 58 shots, 60 minute game, that's like almost one a minute. So Palmateer had 59 seconds out of every minute to rest. Jim McKenny had a goal and an assist for the Leafs. Tiger Williams ended up with a broken nose when his line-mate Pat Boutette clipped him with his stick. What a pal.
Trivia
Whom did the Leafs receive from the Caps in the summer of 1980 for Palmateer? answer below.
Little Known Fact
When in Washington, Palmateer was getting ready for knee surgery. He was at the hospital, in his gown, tied in the back of course. A phone call to the OR. It wasn't Tom Green and Organized Rhyme. It was the Capitals brass. Wayne Stephenson was hurt in practise and they needed Palmateer to start that night. So, Palmateer got a lift to the rink in the ambulance, played the game and had knee surgery a week later. Now that's a team player.
Offside
GO Transit is way offside. Yesterday I was waiting for the same bus I've been taking every morning for the past six years. It takes me to the train station. Bus drove right by me doing about 80KM/H in a 60 zone to boot. When I saw the bus gunning it at the speed of sound from about 200 feet away I started waving my arms to try and flag the bus driver, but no, zoom, zoom, zoom he was gone. I couldn't frickin believe it. This bus only comes once an hour, not like another one was coming in a minute. I was standing in the same spot I always do, always nice in early to get the bus. But to no avail yesterday. To the GO Transit bus driver who "missed" a stop yesterday, you are offside.
Trivia Answer
Robert Picard, Tom Coulis(remember him) and a draft pick that turned into Bob McGill
