Welcome to the Hotstove! As always, I'm your host, Travis Yost.
Philadelphia Flyers F Harry Zolnierczyk has been a popular name in the National Hockey League over the past few days. During the Flyers 4-1 victory over the Capitals on Wednesday, Zolnierczyk was given a five-minute major for kneeing Mathieu Perreault, but the assessment was quickly rescinded by the league offices. Zolnierczyk was given a clean slate.
The hit below:
Perhaps the fact that the league absolved Harry Z of any guilt in the incident will prove key, because on Saturday, the Ontario-native once again found himself serving a five-minute major penalty with a corresponding game misconduct for a hit on Ottawa Senators defenseman Mike Lundin.
And, this time, Zolnierczyk may have a tough time evading Brendan Shanahan and company.
Zolnierczyk's hit, just inside the Philadelphia zone, looked to be the textbook kind of hit that the National Hockey League's trying to get rid of. It appears that the Philadelphia F may have left his feet prior to contact, and with initial contact point being Mike Lundin's head, Zolnierczyk could be facing a significant suspension.
Video below:
Mike Lundin was immediately ruled out for the rest of the game with an upper-body injury, adding to the injury woes of the Ottawa Senators.
If you're the league office, how do you handle Harry Z's case on Saturday afternoon? Is the hit suspension worthy? Does the five-minute major and misconduct suffice as punishment? Remember, the Wednesday incident with Mathieu Perreault will likely play no role in any supplemental discipline.
