Well that was a good one I must say. I am sorry to see us walk away with the loss but we fought hard. While Luongo was skating off he was watching the video board because I don't think even he could believe that the shot by McCarthy didn't go in.
Thrashers fans we should applaud the boys, that is not the outcome we wanted but the Canucks are a good team and Luongo is a good goalie but besides that we did put up a good fight.
I have a feeling Moose will be in tomorrow, Kari looked so tired. @ of the 3 goals were not just his fault they were more the fault of his dmen.. 2 screens produced 2 goals. If the screen is a good one (which those 2 were indeed) then there isn't much that the goalie can do. Besides the screens though Kari was flopping around more than usual so I just hop he gets a rest tomorrow. I don't think he didnt have a strong game, that is not what I am saying I am just saying I really think he needs a rest. He played well but looked sloppy not to mention the flight tonight and losing an hour when they get to Edmonton. That can't be easy and could cause a problem for more than one guy on the team. Luckily the boys should be use to it and hopefully Bob will put together a nice wake up morning skate to really get everyone on their feet.
Anyways back on track, that was a little bit of a digression.
Although we fought to the end we did have a little trouble getting this game started. It looked like we came out of the locker room alittle sleepy while the Canucks came out really fast, hard, and strong and that is why they won. When you come right out of the locker room on your toes and catch a team off guard it's hard for your opponent to catch you if you play it right. That is exactly what I think the Canucks did and they did it well. We almost came back but I would rather see us in the position the Canucks were in, come out and score 3 or 4 goals early and then play some tough defense to make sure the other team can't catch up. The problem with that plan though is the Thrashers have always been the type of team that likes to come back (and give all of us fans a heart attack haha). I remember last year I took a road trip to Tampa and I had a sign that said "We love the Comeback Kids" cause at that point that's what a lot of the fans around BlueLand we calling the boys because we had become notorious for doing that. Can the Thrashers become a team like the Canucks where we come out, score early, and hold tight till the end? I know I would love to see it but who knows if that will ever happpen.
Props to Kovy for a good game, he had a really fabulous move where he tried to shoot backhand and although he did Luongo was fast enough and stopped it. Him and Sim both played a great game and had good goals. It's too bad Kovy couldn't get that last one in that he shot, I would have loved to see an OT.
I must also give props to my man Exelby who played yet another fabulous game. I really think he is getting his game back since his stint with mono. He had some great hits and at LEAST twice he saved us in front of the goal. I am really glad to see him back and I can't wait to see what else he does on this road trip. I hope it has nothing to do with the fact that his family is watching and the fact that he really is back to the old X. I must also give props to Havelid for saving the shot on the open goal and Sutton who stopped the puck at the blue line there at the end but didn't quite do anything with it after that. I suppose the outcome could have been worse, the Canucks could have had an empty netter.
What did you think about tonight's game??
Tomorrow we take on Edmonton, I think we will have a better chance beating this team as long as we get the right kind of rest and do not think about today's game and focus on the game at hand. Tomorrow is also the day Belanger and Hamel join the team so we will get to see them in action. I am very curious to see how they pan out and hopefully it proves that DW made the right move. I would love to see both of them just explode and really prove the negativity wrong. If not then hopefully DW has some more tricks up his sleeve.
Alittle bit of a side note: Has anyone seen this Under the lights special on the Carolina coach? It's on Sport South here in Atlanta and I think it's been playing on Fox Sports Net elsewhere but I really enjoyed watching. I enjoy seeing the "behind the scenes" and seeing exactly what goes into being a NHL coach. I just wanted to throw that out there cause I enjoyed watching it and seeing what goes on behind what we see. Check it out if you already haven't (and don't worry if you absolutely can't STAND Carolina you don't see the team that much).
